Bangladesh is densely populated and urbanising rapidly. Poultry meat production has doubled over the past 20 years. Most poultry are traded at live bird markets, which present significant public and poultry health challenges.

- Bangladesh’s gross domestic product (GDP) was US$274bn in 2018, with a growth rate of 7.86% in 2017-18. This is projected to increase to 8.13% for 2018-19 fiscal year.
